Excess length of stay due to methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection at a large Swiss hospital estimated by multi-state modelling

چکیده
Methods During 2009, 167 MRSA-infected and 25766 MRSAuninfected control patients were included in a multistate model where occurrence of MRSA infection was the time-dependent exposure and discharge or death was the study endpoint. Infections were stratified by anatomical site. Excess LoS was extracted computing the Aalen-Johansen estimator of the matrix of transition probabilities. 95% confidence intervals were derived by bootstrap re-sampling. Multivariate Cox regression analysis (adjusted for sex, age, cancer and diseases of the skin and subcutaneous tissue and of circulatory and digestive system) was used to assess the independent effect of MRSA infection on excess LoS.

Nasal Colonization Rate of Community and Hospital Acquired Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus in Hospitalized Children
Background & Aims: Prevalence of community and hospital acquired methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection is increasing. The primary reservoir is the anterior nares; and nasal carriage is a risk factor for infection in a variety of populations. Infection due to hospital-acquired colonization is different from community acquired in clinical manifestations and antibiotics susc...
متن کاملMethicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus in Ventilator Associated Pneumonia in Toxicological Intensive Care Unit
Background: Methicillin resistant Staphylococus Aureus (MRSA) is a cause of nosocomial infections at intensive care unit (ICU), which imposes a high mortality and morbidity on the health care systems. The objective of this study was to evaluate the role of MRSA in patients with clinically suspected ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) in toxicological ICU admitted patients. Methods: This ...
متن کاملFrequency of nasal carriage for methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus among the hospital staff – Bandar Abbas, Iran
Introduction: Methicillin – resistant S.aureus (MRSA) hss been recognized as an important pathogen in human diseases. Screening of health care workers allowed early detection of nasal carriage of MRSA and prevention of subsequent transmission. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of nasal carriage of MRSA in Shariati hospital staff. Methods: This cross – sectional study wa...
متن کاملRapid Emergence of Co-colonization with Community-acquired and Hospital-Acquired Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Strains in the Hospital Setting.
BACKGROUND: Community-acquired methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (CA- MRSA), a novel strain of MRSA, has recently emerged and rapidly spread in the community. Invasion into the hospital setting with replacement of the hospital-acquired MRSA (HA-MRSA) has also been documented. Co-colonization with both CA-MRSA and HA-MRSA would have important clinical implications given differences in ...
